Some words from Fr. Michael Long:
In a recent email to the clergy of the diocese, Bishop Doyle writes, "we are living in the midst of political partisan division. A divided world of partisan politics around the environment, immigration, sexuality, healthcare, race, and other topics has invaded our congregations, and this partisan division often creates road-blocks in our mission. As a way to support you in your ministry we have put together a website to highlight a few learning opportunities and re-sources:
www.havingdifficultconversations.com is a place for you to see . . . a number of re-commended resources for you to use."
It makes sense to me to pass this along to all of you. The only program with which I am personally familiar is Kaleidoscope. A few years ago I participated in a half-day workshop; it was excellent. My son Ben went to California for the entire course. On the website there is also a link to Bishop Doyle's most recent book, Citizen. Though I have not yet read it, I recommend it, based on his sermons and presentations around that topic. Feel free to explore any of these resources and provide feedback to me or our vestry.
Yesterday you received a picture of a young man standing by some freshly trimmed tall shrubs.
He is a member of Boy Scout Troop 282 ---They trimmed the shrubs by the East Entrance of the Parish Hall. Just another gesture to say Thank You to Epiphany for letting them use our buildings. As you know the new benches and painting of the tables and chairs on the patio were also an Eagle Scout Project of the troop. Another proposed project to refurbish and maintain for 1 year the storage buildings is in the wings waiting for final scout office approval. The Scout Troop is truly carrying out the " Good Turn " policy. It is a GIFT to Epiphany.
Last Saturday I talked with John Mather. He said he is doing just fine but about to go "Stir Crazy", no one in and no one out. He said to tell everyone hello.
Last Thursday the Vestry approved a $ 200 dollar graduation gift for Carrie Guthrie, daughter of Desiree and Nathan Guthrie and granddaughter of Nancy and Roy Heuss that just graduated from Burnet High School. She plans to go to Texas A & M to study Construction Engineering this fall. Way to go.........."Gig-Em"
On another note, BCISD has decided that they will furnish school supplies for ALL Students to relieve parents of that expense. School is scheduled to begin August 17th.
Sunday Attendance: 32-To date, 54 people have participated in church through Zoom and phone
This coming Sunday, the 28th, Sherry Musgrove and Diane Hays are scheduled to do the Reading of the Lessons and the Prayers.
Happy Birthday to Wayne Blikre who celebrates his birthday on June 29 and to Michael Long who celebrates his birthday on June 30.
Have a Great Week
