From Father Michael Long: Though I was not there in person, I attended Ashley Harper-Oberle's Ordination to the Diaconate online. The cathedral was beautiful, and it was a wonderful display of the Church's vitality right now, a quarter of the way into the 21st century. Fifteen ordinands, including Ashley, became Deacons in the Church by the grace of God and the ministry of our chief pastor, The Right Reverend C. Andrew Doyle. Canon Faulstich's sermon was both moving and challenging. Ashley's son Paxton vested her in her deacon's stole, symbol of her new status in Christ's Church. The emotion of the long-awaited moment was evident on her face. We have been privileged to be part of her formation and preparation for that celebration.
