Some words from Michael:
There is division among Americans in general, and, no doubt, Episcopalians as well, about refugee resettlement.
Even in light of our differences, some of us look for ways to help those facing extreme(even mortal) danger in their own country.
The following is a statement from Episcopal Migration Ministries(EMM), one of nine refugee resettlement agencies in the U.S.
"The Gospel mandate to extend hospitality to strangers and our Baptismal covenant to "seek and serve Christ in all persons, loving our neighbor as ourself...to strive for justice and peace among all people, and respect the dignity of every human being' call us to this ministry. The story of the Good Samaritan reminds us to invest ourselves in healing and serving needs of others regardless of circumstances. As Easter people, we are committed to restoring hope to people who have been betrayed, victimized and who have lost all that was dear to them, including their self-worth and identity....Participation is transformational for all involved-the refugees and those reaching out to them."
EMM offers a program for those who would like to encourage our government to continue with extreme vetting and welcoming of refugees.
