We don't know how familiar you are with the Alzheimer's Respite Center which meets every Tuesday at the Methodist Church. It provides a safe enjoyable place for those suffering with Alzheimer's; and at the same time gives their caregivers a break from 10-1. Joe Urias volunteers there every Tuesday(Thank you, Joe), and many of us provide the lunch there every secondTuesday.
Mary Jane Shanes, Director of the Highland Lakes Respite Center (the official name) recently wrote us a letter stating that the Center has been selected to receive the Dignity Vision Award from the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services (DADS) honoring volunteers who promote respect for individuals. She says that whether behind the scenes or leading the class, volunteers are essential to DADS. Our Center is one of only twelve groups to receive this award. We will accept the award on behalf of all our volunteers, and the thank the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany for your support.
And now a word from Michael-"It pleases me so much that Epiphany is involved in this ongoing support of people in our community suffering from Alzheimer's and for their caregivers. It strikes me that it is precisely what Paul meant when he wrote to the Galatians: 'Bear one another's burdens we have the opportunity, let us do good to all people." And what we mean by the Dismissal at the end of the Eucharist: 'Go in peace to love and serve the Lord,' because He has told us that we serve Him by serving others. It is in short the ministry to which we are called."
St. Anne's will meet this Friday, September 2 at 9:30 in the parish hall. We will be finishing up plans for the Rummage Sale as well as other business. Even if you don't ordinarily come to the meetings, all ladies of the church are needed.
Dianne Ragland will need to be out of the office, Tuesday, September 6 to take John to Temple for some surgery. Can someone cover the office on that day from 10-1? Thanks so much.
