Last Sunday was just one more example of the love and caring of the people of Epiphany. Instead of a sermon, Michael read a letter from Bishop Doyle and added some comments of his own followed by a prayer. He asked that we take up an impromptu collection for victims of Hurricane Harvey. He gave us the choice of giving locally for the evacuees at Inks Lake State Park or to the Diocesan Relief and Development. We collected a total of $470.00 with $245.00 for Inks Lake and $225.00 for the Diocese. Later at a called Vestry Meeting, the Vestry voted to send $3,000 to the Diocesan Relief and Development and $1,000 for local use. The Vestry designated Alicia White to coordinate aid locally with L A Care and the First Methodist Church of Burnet.
If you were not there and wish to contribute, there are envelopes at the church office, or you can make a check out to Epiphany and designate whether you want it to go locally or to the Diocese.
Additionally, Jim Dyke asked if anyone had a flat bottomed boat that he could use to help his sister and brother in law get things out of her flooded house in Houston. Almost immediately Maria Gonzales offered her and husband JJ's boat.
Saltine Sunday was not forgotten either although if it hadn't been for Joyce Juhnke it might have been. We collected money and crackers to be able to take 20 boxes of crackers to LACare.
Our own Florence Nightingale, Alicia White has been charged with the responsibility of dispersing funds locally. She is working closely with Lottie McCorkle to determine and meet needs. A pressing need is underwear and socks, and after church Sunday she was on her way to buy them with the money collected for local use.You may not know about Hope's Closet, but it is a place where folks can get clothes they need free. Alicia is working with Theresa Griggs and another lady that heads this place up to let the folks who need clothes find out about it. Also, this is a good place to donate unneeded clothes.
DID YOU KNOW: That the Commemorative Air Force of Burnet (aka the Confederate Air Force) has been using one of their old Transport Planes (maybe C-130 ?) to fly relief supplies to Houston for the evacuees of Harvey?
Thank you Jim Dyke for letting us know.
