23 May 2012 - Feast of Copernicus and Kepler
Dear Epiphany Family,
Carmen Parker’s Funeral will be at 10:30 am this Friday, May 25th.
Nancy Petty will meet with a surgeon this Friday to determine what surgery will be done. Cancer cells were found in her biopsy. Please keep her in your prayers.
On June 3rd, Trinity Sunday, we will have a Forgiveness Service at Epiphany at both services. This is something we really need to do at Epiphany and the service is one from Jerry Lyle. We are quick to assume that God has forgiven us through the death of his Son Jesus, but we do like to be unforgiving to those that we think have sinned against us. You will have the chance for reconciliation and be able to write down the names of those you need to forgive, all which will be burned up as part of the service.
This Sunday we will have a reception honoring Diane Fulenwider for the years she has given to Epiphany as our choir director. (We will even let Ralph join us!) She was able to get the choir to sing above themselves. (That what the choir tells me!) She incorporated contemporary music with our hymnal and generally upgraded our whole music program. She will be very hard to replace!
Katherine Drake is our new Senior Acolyte! Congratulations Katherine!
At our vestry meeting, last Sunday, the Vestry voted to pay the Diocesan Assessment for April. In addition, we will work to catch up with the Crump fund which is due in December. Also we will start setting aside money to cover the cost of a new choir director at $500 a month, as well as set aside monthly payments to cover the Rector’s pension and Social Security. The Vestry also decided to pay $100 each to the Boys and Girls Club, Burnet County Child Welfare, the Community Kitchen, LACare, and the Children’s Advocacy Center. We will review these payments every month.
Epiphany needs more greeters! What a wonderful problem to have as the greeters are the 1st ones people meet when the come to Epiphany for the first time. Please contact May and Steve Stevens if you are interested in this ministry.
Aline and Virgil Murphy have agreed to represent us at the election of our Suffragan Bishop on June 2nd in Houston. We still need two more delegates and time is running out! Please contact me if you are willing to go!
This Monday is Memorial Day. Please remember all those who gave of themselves so that we have the freedoms to worship where God calls us, as well as the other freedoms we tend to forget!
MIT has finally figured out why the ketchup gets stuck in the bottle. They have invented a new liquid that enables the ketchup to slip out: http://www.foxnews.com/scitech/2012/05/23/mit-researchers-fix-ketchup-problem/ The video is down a bit, but I have just one question: Just how safe is that stuff?
Ten reasons why going to church is important: To hear God’s Word, To be taught from God’s Word; To have the gospel set before you in the Holy Sacrament; To make confession of your sins; To be assured of your forgiveness; To build one another up into maturity in Christ; To be rebuked and corrected; To gather in accordance with the will of God; To express on earth what you are already in Christ; To give thanks to Almighty God. (From Vincent Murphy)
Here is a link to what happens in your backyard when you aren’t looking. There is some great cinematography here: http://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/xHkq1edcbk4?rel=0
I tried to find good solar eclipse photos, but really couldn’t find much.
Last night the crescent moon was near Venus and was just awesome,
Ted
